We’re back home. Saying it that simply makes it sound like a quick and easy process, but it was more like a forty-hour lucid dream. We’re all suffering from what I’m calling “studio lag” after spending our week working from 7 at night to 4 in the morning. The last night was the craziest. Here’s an abridged timeline of events that led us from Springfield to my desk at work where I now sit (during a short break):
Wednesday:
10am: wake up, pack and head to the studio for the last time.
2pm: eat lunch as Mike and Pat flirt with the Selma-Blair-lookalike waitress.
4pm: get cracking on edits in the studio, Jeremy composes the instrumental interlude on Crumar, coffee.
7pm: pizza for dinner, discuss favorite movies, pack the Expo for the ride home.
10pm: Jeremy works on mixes, we nap, drink coffee, and discuss the finer points of relationships.
Thursday:
12am: Jeremy moves on to mastering, we listen to mixes in the Expo and the Prius.
3am: Pat Mike and Ben sleep as Daniel and I record the final piano tune live together, 4th take is a keeper.
4am: tweak final mixes, food run to Sonic, goof around making Daniel’s voice sound like a chipmunk.
5am: get serious, finish mixing, burn tracks
5:30am: watch the sun rise, say goodbye and pull out of Springfield with Ben at the helm of the Expo.
8am: Ben carries on while we all try to catch a few hours of sleep.
10am: cross the mighty Mississipi river, drawing nearer to Nashville, awake for 24 hours.
12pm: hang in downtown Nashville, visit Gruhn guitars, sit on the river walk.
1pm: eat Thai food for the first time with Brody Harper, Michael Farren and some other guys.. good times, spicy food.
5pm: search for an exit with coffee, enter eastern time zone, read a few chapters of Harry Potter.
7pm: discuss mixes & vision for the record
11pm: pull into Statesville, unpack, swap cars, head to Raleigh, awake for 37 hours.
2pm: home & asleep after 40 hours.
So a crazy ending to one of the best weeks of my life. Thanks to all our friends and family and everyone who prayed for our safety on the road and for creativity in the studio, God was good!
Sorry for the lack of video update. I’m working on a final wrap-up. We are all so proud of this record and have a big vision for it, so stay tuned..

We wrapped up day 5 yesterday with the record resembling its final shape – it’s probably about 80% done. With 2 full days left that’s putting us in great shape to add the final vocals and ear candy and have time to work on mixes. As you’ll see in the video, we had time to work on a ton of stuff and get in some much needed down-time. Some non-musical highlights of the trip:
- feeding our coffee addictions every few hours at some great shops around town: the Coffee Ethic, Big Momma’s
- visiting the largest Bass Pro Shops in the world
- watching Pat and Mike do their ridiculous p90x workout
- teaching Daniel that red lights mean stop
- eating a delicious homemade meal that the producer’s (Jeremy) girlfriend Elsie cooked for us (check out her amazing blog)
- eating breakfast at the Starbucks in the local grocery store
- finding some great food places: St. Michael’s, Imo’s, the Sub Shop, Maria’s
- and of course, me trying to find the local swimming holes and caves to explore
We are having an unhealthy amount of fun. Enjoy the video..
